Implications of Co‐Feeding Water on the Growth Mechanisms of Retained Species on a SAPO‐18 Catalyst during the Methanol‐to‐Olefins Reaction

The dynamics of retained and deactivating species in a SAPO-18 catalyst during the methanol-to-olefins reaction have been followed using combination ex-situ in-situ techniques differential integral reactors.The were analyzed extraction, FTIR UV-vis spectroscopies combined with online product analysis (gas chromatography mass spectrometry). composition extracted soluble was determined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry that insoluble high-resolution spectrometry. We observe decrease formation degradation rates when co-feeding water, whereas extent decreases is same across entire spectrum molecules. This indicates water unselectively quenches active species. At time, has an extended lifetime due to diffusion (particularly olefins) out crystals, subsequent growth heavy polycyclic aromatic structures imply less deactivation. These conclusions can be extrapolated other MTO catalysts relatively similar pore topology such as SAPO-34 or SSZ-13 structures.
